Creamy Mushroom Sauce Recipe

Mushrooms are that most fanstatic ingredients ever known that go very well with pasta, their rich earthy flavors nicely complementing the other ingredients in the sauce, especially tomatoes and cream. Do you have the recipe on your todo list? Check this one that can use perfectly on whatever noodles, pasta, steak, pork or chicken you have on hand.  I love this with my meat balls. Yummmm!

Ingredients 

  • 1 lb 2oz (500 g) of finely chopped mushrooms (use any favorite mushroom)
  • 3 finely chopped shallots
  • 7 fl oz (200 ml) of cream
  • 4½ fl oz (125 ml) of white wine
  • 1 oz (30 g) of butter
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Melt the butter over a gentle heat in a medium sized saucepan.
  2. Add the chopped shallots and fry for 3 – 4 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and fry for another 2 minutes.
  4. Add the chopped mushrooms and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Stir all of the ingredients together and cook until the mushrooms have softened and darkened in colour.
  6. Turn the heat up on the stove and pour in the white wine.
  7. Stir the ingredients and cook until the wine had reduced by two-thirds.
  8. Turn the heat down and stir in the cream and nutmeg.
  9. Serve hot.
