Shashlik Russian Lamb Kabobs

This is a classic Russian dish that was made for every one by a real Russian. It is wonderful, and uses garlic and pomegranate juice to make a very distinctive flavor. But to achieve this you must marinade this overnight.

Time: 20 minutes and serves 4


  • 1 1/2 lbs lamb, cut into 2 inch cubes (leg is best)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper, ground
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice (unsweetened)
  • 4 tbs olive oil
  • 4 skewers


  1. Combine all ingredients except for Olive Oil and skewers in a bowl. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight to marinade.
  2. Place Lamb cubes on skewers and discard marinade.
  3. Brush Lamb with Olive Oil.
  4. Place Lamb under broiler, turning every 5 minutes.
  5. Broil about 10 minutes for rare, or 15-20 minutes for well done.
  6. Serve with Vodka for that authentic touch.

Tips: You can put onions, green peppers, tomatoes, or anything you like on the skewers with the Lamb, but they will have great flavor on their own. Serving over rice is a nice presentation.
