Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a bowl, combine the grits, brown sugar, flour, and eggs.
- Blend well, then stir in the milk and butter or margarine. Add the vanilla and vinegar, and blend well.
- Pour the mixture into the pie shell and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the center is just set. Let cool briefly, then serve while still warm.
- Serve warm by itself or topped with ice cream.

Steps:
- Place the milk, water, and salt into a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Once the milk mixture comes to a boil, gradually add the cornmeal while continually whisking. Once all of the cornmeal has been incorporated, decrease the heat to low and cover. Remove lid and whisk frequently, every 3 to 4 minutes, to prevent grits from sticking or forming lumps; make sure to get into corners of pot when whisking. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes or until mixture is creamy.
- Remove from the heat, add the pepper and butter, and whisk to combine. Once the butter is melted, gradually whisk in the cheese a little at a time. Serve immediately.

- 1. Pre heat oven to 325 degrees. Combine water & salt, bring to a boil. Add the grits & cook for 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the butter; cook for 1 additional minute. Set aside to cool slightly.
- 2. Combine sugar, flour, eggs, buttermilk & vanilla. Slowly stir into the cooled grits. Pour into pie shell and bake for 35-40 minutes or until set.
- 3. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream.
